Impacting Education for Jesus

Newsletter: March 2006

It’s only March and already I have so much to report. The speed at which the Lord is moving is accelerating and it’s all so exciting. So be encouraged and know that the Holy Spirit is fanning the flame of prayer in men, women and children.

And talking of exciting Robyn Butt and I are travelling to South Africa and Tanzania in April.

We will have one week in Johannesburg praying for children in orphanages and then 3 weeks in a city called Arusha in northern Tanzania . The Lord has connected us with a married couple from NZ who have been missionaries in Arusha for 17 years. They run a Christian School and also train Christian teachers. I will be teaching on the blood of Jesus Christ and taking with me mini-banners of the blood of Jesus Christ.

A staggering example of answered prayer and the Lord’s direct hand on Miracle Education unfolded at the National Day of Prayer held at Wesley in September 2005. At that meeting the Lord told me to encourage parent prayer groups in schools to meet with the Christian students and pray with them. In response to that direction from the Lord I sent an email out to the network informing them of what the Lord was wanting us to do. I received immediate response from a Christian school in Sydney. The prayer group at that school had been praying about that exact idea and when they read my email they knew the Lord was telling them that the time is NOW!

So they approached the headmaster and he was in agreement. Remember this is in a Christian school which already runs prayer groups with students as part of other programmes.

  • This prayer meeting which was scheduled at lunchtime would be voluntary.
  • The meeting was scheduled to start at 1.15pm AND there were kids banging on the door at 1pm to GET IN!!
  • At the first meeting 60 kids from kinder to year 10 turned up!!!!!!
  • At the second meeting 45 kids VOLUNTARILY attended the prayer meeting.
  • The kids wanted to know if they could meet EVERY week.
  • These prayer meetings are now scheduled for twice a term and dates are on the school calendar and on the school website.

Surely the Holy Spirit is at work. Only the Holy Spirit can put a desire in kids to pray.

It is exciting to know that children from non-church going families are leading the prayer and praise.

Of their own free will kids are placing flyers around the school advertising the prayer meeting

The parents leading the prayer group said “God is awesome and He has exceeded our expectations.”

When I heard of these kids praying I just had to see it for myself. So I went along to the first prayer meeting for this term. It was amazing. I asked two 7 year old girls why they were giving up their lunchtime to pray and they said “it was way more cool to pray than be in the playground”. A 7 year old boy said “the prayer room is peaceful”. I was so blessed by seeing the fruit of what the Lord had spoken to me in September 05. The photos show one of the mums who leads the group joining with her son in prayer. You can also see the very creative prayer box and children writing prayer requests to place in the box. There were about 45 prayer requests from 35 kids. I call this gathering KIDS ON FIRE. You may ask if the Holy Spirit expects KIDS ON FIRE to operate in government schools. This answer is a definite “YES!”

mar06-03 Simply find out when the Christian kids in your school normally meet for ISCF or SUPA club and tell them you are keen to pray with them on an irregular basis. Be prayerful in your approach to ensure that they don’t feel threatened. The idea is to support them in prayer. Maybe you can meet with them in the playground before school.

The women who lead the prayer group at the Christian school have supplied me with the guidelines they use. Remember that years kinder from year 10 attend so you may have to adapt the guidelines to suit your situation. Also if you have any questions about how to lead kids in prayer then, email me with KIDS ON FIRE in the subject line and I will forward them on to the women leading the group in the Christian school and they will send me back an anointed reply.

mar06-04Guidelines for prayer meetings with children/youth

Remind children about confidentiality and of the importance of not using a person’s name unless permission has been given
Have a list of prayer points visible for all to read
Have a set starting and finishing time
Use the prayer box for more personal prayer needs that the children have
Advertise the prayer meeting 2 weeks in advance
Commence prayer time with praise and worship
Read a bible passage to set the direction of prayer for the school, staff and students

If in a setting where children of different ages are gathering to pray you may want to employ the following method. Focus on encouraging the youngest ones to pray for the first for 5 minutes and then thank them for their involvement and release them to play. Then have the next age bracket praying and then release them. Until finally you are praying with the oldest ones who are naturally able to pray for a longer time.
Similarly the praise and worship will focus on the younger ages and the action style songs they enjoy and then change according to the age groups until the older ones are left worshipping in the manner that suits them.

I want to remind you that Father God loves you as much as He loves Jesus! Yes it is amazing and true. In John 17v23 we read “I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one. Then the world will know that you sent me and will understand that you love them as much as you love me.” (NLT)Father God loves us as much as He loves Jesus. This needs to be a revelation to our spirit. It is not something we can understand with our mind. Say it out loud now… “Father God loves ME as much as HE loves Jesus!”

Those words are food to our spirit. This revelation will mark our prayer life. Knowing that God loves us displaces all fear. I John 4v18 says that perfect ( mature) love casts out fear. Each time we sense that we are responding to a situation out of fear, we need to stop and say “God loves me as much as He loves Jesus!” Fear will leave. This revelation will mark our prayer life because we will have ABSOLUTE trust and confidence in God as we pray. And the results of that are seen in Mark 11v24 which says

For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].

This revelation will mark our prayer life because God’s voice will be the strongest voice. When the going gets tough and satan whispers in our ear that God won’t come through for us we will declare back to him “Father God loves me as much as He loves Jesus. God never let Jesus down and He won’t let me down. God’s word is as sure to me as it is to Jesus. So shut up devil!” This revelation will mark our prayer life so that nothing will appear too big for us to tackle. Our faith will not be little. Let’s look at Matthew 17v19-21.

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus and asked privately, Why could we not drive it out? 20He said to them, Because of the littleness of your faith [that is, your lack of firmly relying trust]. For truly I say to you, if you have faith [that is living] like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to yonder place, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you. But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.

Once again we see that our spirits must be flooded with the knowledge that God loves us as much as He loves Jesus. When we are full of the love of God then we are faith giants, firmly relying and trusting on the word of God. James wrote that a double minded person will receive NOTHING from the Lord. We are double minded when we don’t fully understand the love God has for us.

But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7People like that should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8They can't make up their minds. They waver back and forth in everything they do. James 1v6

When we are hesitant or confused fear is lurking. But the knowledge of the love of God in us will flush fear out. We know that Jesus literally walked on the word of His Father, because He did not doubt at all. He believed and trusted totally the promises made by His Father. We too must reach that position in our spirit. Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth and in particular with John 17v23.

I am praying that we will continue to yield to the Holy Spirit allowing Him to do a deep work in each of us, revealing the power and truth of God’s love to us. As we do this I know we will all be set free to a greater degree to serve the Lord and also to receive love from Him as this revelation unfolds.
